Queer Records Listening Club
Welcome to Queer Records Listening Club – a monthly gathering for LGBTQIA+ music lovers to connect, catch-up and celebrate iconic queer albums on vinyl. Each month, we listen to a new or classic record by a queer artist or icon – played start to finish, just as they intended.
For our difficult second album, we’re paying homage to the underdog pop princess Carly Rae Jepsen and the queer cult of her 2015 classic, E•MO•TION (yes, the fullstops are necessary.)
While the straights were still mumbling “Wasn’t she the Call Me Maybe girl?”, us queers heard something far more potent with this album. The hot sax solo on Run Away With Me…TICK! The piano banger bonus track of I Didn’t Just Come Her To Dance…YASSS, DIVA! Mouthing the words to Your Type like it’s a tragic gay Shakespearean monologue…VERY CORRECT! CRJ’s not just pop, she’s pop with feelings, and that’s what makes her a camp icon!
We’ll be back with our hosts at Carolina – a queer-first space run by a gorgeous team who care deeply about creating a welcoming environment. Drinks are themed, vibes are gay, Boy Problems are optional.
